Dear Editor,
I read two letters by Alicia Martin and Kimberely James in the Guyana Chronicle. Both dealt with money laundering and the good work the government is doing to curb this crime. They criticised the Stabroek News for highlighting this crime and the government’s couldn’t care attitude. Both letters were poorly written and said nothing. Money laundering has been institutionalised in Guyana.
Several outfits out of the UK and the USA have launderers in Guyana who operate in various areas of the economy. Several notorious individuals who cannot account for their wealth are part of the burgeoning narco-rich society. The launderers who did not observe the in-trade ethics were ceremoniously executed. Several of them are the guests of the USA and one had close ties to the authorities, yet one high up in the administration denied knowing this individual. Hypocrisy abounds in the society.
Yours faithfully,
Vijay Singh
