A 16-year-old boy who admitted that he stole items worth over $75,000 was remanded into police custody pending sentence while his alleged accomplice who denied the charge was remanded to prison, when the duo appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The juvenile admitted to the joint charge of simple larceny while his 19-year-old alleged accomplice, Leroy Nedd of Parika Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo, denied the charge. Magistrate Fazil Azeez remanded them both.
According to the case presented by the prosecution, the duo, on November 2 at Parika, stole a black purse valued at $2,000, which contained $6,000 a cellular phone worth $5,000, an umbrella valued at $600, a gold band worth $20,000, four gold rings valued $15,000, a pair of gold bangles worth $6,000 and a pair of spectacles valued at $21,000, with a total value of $75,600, the property of Naleta Narine. A report was made to the police and following investigations they were arrested and charged.
The duo will return to court on December 13 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
