Presidential Adviser on Empowerment Odinga Lumumba up to yesterday remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and not the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as was previously reported, in a stable condition.
This newspaper understands that Lumumba is to undergo surgery today.
Meanwhile his driver Trevor Hollingsworth, who is still a patient of the HDU underwent a CT Scan on Sunday and up to yesterday his relatives were awaiting his results.
However, when this newspaper visited him at the hospital yesterday he said he was feeling better.
His wife Pamela told Stabroek News that she hoped her husband could return home before the end of the week.
Lumumba and Hollingsworth were admitted to the hospital following a crash at Hope, East Coast Demerara on Saturday evening while they were returning from Cabinet’s outreach to Berbice, which started on Friday and ended on Saturday.
Lumumba suffered a fractured leg and broken arm among other injuries and Hollingsworth, a severed right ear and injuries to his neck which have not yet been ascertained.
The crash on Saturday occurred at about 6.15 pm when Hollingsworth, who was said to be speeding and hit a culvert at a deep turn at Hope, which caused the vehicle to catapult into a drain.
