Vision Guyana recently updated bank books for the first set of underprivileged children under its Newborn Programme launched in September. According to a press release, $1,000 was deposited into each account. The group said the goal is that by the time the child attains the age of 18 years they would have enough money to pay for at least one year of university studies or to start a trade.
The group also said it continues to screen parents using the initial criteria of a household income under $25,000.
