Five students of the University of Guyana (UG) who were tasked with erasing the stigma attached to students with special needs, recently presented stationery worth $150,000 and monetary assistance to the New Amsterdam Special Needs School (NASNS).
The UG students, Candice Canzius, Michelle Baird-Gomes, Michelle Easton, Merson Jones and Nevica Wray also held a road march with the students in the vicinity of the school.
They told this newspaper that as part of their curriculum they were required to “successfully execute a project” which was done under the theme: ‘Educating for change: helping children with special education needs reach their potential’.
They said they worked along with NASNS Headmistress Natalie Ramoutar on the project, which was done “in an effort to enhance educational opportunities for these children.”
The group expressed gratitude for the stationery and monetary assistance, which they acquired from various organizations, including Medicare Pharmacy, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Le Meriden Pegasus, Kojac Marketing Agency, Austin’s Book Services and Oasis Caf
