The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) has created a one-off sponsorship with Clico (Guyana) Limited for their All Stars women’s cricket match set for tomorrow at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground Thomas Lands.
At a simple handing over ceremony earlier this week, president of the GCA Bishwa Panday in the presence of Timothy Austin, Sales and Marketing Officer of CLICO and Theresa Pemberton, organizer of the match, thanked CLICO for coming on board with the GCA and for also signalling its interest in women’s cricket, highlighting that the GCA was very serious and committed to cricket and cricket administration in Georgetown, and this was not limited to the organizing of male cricket alone.
“Women’s cricket is just as important as the male version of the game and although this is just a single match, we at the GCA hope that the interest generated will lead to the organizing of more women’s cricket matches not only in Georgetown, but Guyana as a whole,” Panday stated.
In response, Venita Bovell, Marketing Manager of CLICO, reiterated how happy her company was to be a part of the gesture.
“First of all, I must extend congratulations to the GCA for the exemplary work they have ongoing for cricket in Georgetown, and for making it a point to organize this feature match for women. CLICO’s interest in sports is well known and we are happy to be a part of the GCA on this venture with the emphasis being on women’s Cricket,” Bovell said.
