Close to 800 participants are expected to compete in the Annual Physically Challenged Day of Sports organized by the Rotary Club of Georgetown today at Thirst Park.
The day’s programme will feature 25 athletics and novelty events and is expected to get under way with a march past of the athletes and officials at 08:00 hours with musical accompaniment being provided by the Salvation Army Drum Corps..
Twenty-one centres from Georgetown, Linden, Berbice, West Demerara, East Bank Demerara and East Coast Demerara will be represented with the David Rose School for the Handicap expected to field the largest team.
Linden Centre for the Handicapped, Guyana Society for the Blind, Guyana Association for the Visually Impaired, Open Door Centre, Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, Differently Abled Athletic Club, Regions two and three, Kuru Kuru, West Coast Berbice and East Berbice centres are all expected to compete.
There will be a 25 metres assisted walk, 80 metres dash for boys and girls 8 – 16 years, buns eating, three-legged race, wheel chair, egg and spoon, wheel barrow, musical chair, teachers’, and late for schoo races.
Volunteers from several organizations will be on hand to assist the participants.
