A 14-man squad has been named to represent Guyana in the Twenty/20 cricket match against the visiting Daren Ganga led Trinidad and Tobago side at the National Stadium, Providence, on Sunday. The game is being played in memory of the late President Cheddi Jagan who died 11 years ago.
Included in the squad are seven of the players who were a part of the team that defeated the Trinidadians in the inaugural Stanford Twenty/20 competition, including Man-of-the-Match in the final Travis Dowlin.
There are six newcomers in the Twenty/20 squad with Orin Forde who was a part of the team in the Stanford competition but did not play, also being listed.
Among the six new faces are the explosive opening batsman Royston Crandon and the live wire all rounder Chris Barnwell. Right arm off spinner Zaheer Mohammed and Essequibo’s Ramesh Narine are also included, so too is Sewnarine Chattergoon who was recently part of the West Indies preparatory camp in Barbados, and wicket keeper/batsman Derwin Christian who was overlooked for the Demerara team that contested the recent senior Inter-County four- day competition.
The 14-man squad reads: Sewnarine Chattergoon,Travis Dowlin, Royston Crandon, Lennox Cush, Imran Khan, Christopher Barnwell, Derwin Christian, Neil Mc Garrell, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Dion Ferrier, Zaheer Mohammed, Orin Forde, Ramesh Narine and Esaun Crando
Meanwhile, a different squad has been selected to represent Guyana against the visiting Team USA in a 40 and 50 over clash at the Georgetown Cricket Club and Albion Community Centre grounds respectively.
With the exception of Mc Garrell and Cush who will both be representing Team USA, Khan, Ferrier, Forde and Narine are not included in the 19-man squad chosen to go up against team USA, but all of the others mentioned above will be a part of the team.
The new additions are Leon Johnson, Assad Fudadin, Sauid Drepaul, Jeremiah Harris, Brandon Bess, Homchand Pooran, Imran Jafferally, Gajanand Singh, Anthony Bramble, Trevon Garraway and Krishna Deosarran. These along with Chattergoon, Dowlin, Royston Crandon, Barnwell, Christian, Nagamootoo and Esaun Crandon will comprise the 19-man squad.
The 14-man squad to take on Team USA in the Twenty/20 clash at the national stadium on Saturday are: Chattergoon, Dowlin, R. Crandon, Barnwell, Khan, Christian, Nagamootoo, Ferrier, E. Crandon, Mohammed, Gajanand Singh, Deosarran, Ramesh Narine and Orin Forde.
Both teams will be captained by Travis Dowlin and managed and coached by Carl Moore and Albert Smith respectively.
