Magistrate Hazel Octive Hamilton yesterday remanded a 32-year-old Albouystown man to prison after he appeared before her in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a robbery under arms charge. Rondell Williams of 86 La Penitence Street was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that on Tuesday at Georgetown, Williams being armed with a gun, robbed Chatterpaul Gobin of one projector, one Sony video camera, one Sony digital camera, four DVD players, one Sony music player, one Razr cell phone and $450,000 cash, the total value of all the articles being $1,315,000.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, representing Williams, repeatedly enquired if his client was the only one accused in the matter. He argued that it was impossible for his client to single-handedly rob the complainant of all the articles mentioned in the charge at one time.
Thompson said his client was a security guard at a school under construction not far from his home and sometimes he would help with work on the building.
The defence counsel requested bail while stressing that his client is the sole breadwinner of his family.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels objected to bail being granted since these types of offences are prevalent in the society today.
