The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha recently held its fourteenth Kala Utsav at the Sanskritik Kendra, Prasahd Nagar, during which youthful talent from praants located throughout the country participated in 11 categories.
A release from the organisation said that the event saw the youths participating in a wide array of music, dance, Hindi elocution and the chanting of the Ramayan. The release added that the standard of the event was high and “the pack audience intermittently chaired as the different items were presented.”
The participants were judged and Pandit Reepu Deman Persaud, who is the president of the Sabha, in congratulating the winners urged them to return to their respective areas to practice and to bring in others to share in the development of the Hindu art forms. The winners were presented with prizes and trophies by Pandit Persaud and Attorney-General Doodnauth Singh.
Padmini Roopnarine won in the Ramayan Chanting segment while Subash Aaditya, Mohini Budhram, Veadwattie Singh, Shiva Sankar, Jhagdeesh Totram, Keshav Budram and Elizabeth Rampersaud, Rajendra Deodat, Padmini Roopnarine, West Coast Demerara and Central Corentyne all won in the Tabla, classic dance, Hindi elocution, male singing, Dholak, duet singing, Harmonium, female singing, folk dance and Kirtan categories respectively.
