Come next pension day, Kitty pensioners will have fresh water to drink as they wait their turn in the queue at the post office, compliments of the Kitty Women’s Institute.
Members of the group handed over the water cooler and bottle of water to Kitty Postmaster Christopher Goring recently.
They will be providing the water and cups initially, and thereafter the post office will take over.President of the Women’s Institute Barbara Yearwood told Stabroek News that the women had been able to fund the cooler though their own fundraising efforts, which included cake sales and sales of craftwork and knitting done by group members.
She said that the institute fell under the umbrella of the Guyana Federation of Women’s Institutes and that it met every Thursday and engaged in craft, tie-dying and cookery.
She said too that every last Thursday of the month the organisation feeds more than 34 ‘golden age’ persons.
The institute has been housed over the Kitty Market for over 64years.
