The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is awaiting a conclusive report from the police which would assist in their investigations into the missing aircraft at an airstrip in Anna Regina.
The aircraft with red stripes and the marking 8RGAA on the tail disappeared from the airstrip between 8 am on Sunday and 7 am on Monday. Interim Director General of the GCAA, Zulficar Mohamed told Stabroek News that almost six weeks after the incident the aircraft is still listed as missing. Mohamed said that they have notified their counterparts in other neighbouring states but to date none of the authorities has sighted the aircraft. According to the Director General their investigations into the circumstances are still ongoing as they are still to receive documents from Air Services Limited. Charges may then be laid depending on the findings.
Initial reports stated that the aircraft was owned by Air Services, which had sold the plane to Fenix Airways Inc. about a month ago prior to its disappearance. Stabroek News understands that Fenix Airways, however, did not pay in full and so the registration of the aircraft has remained with Air Services pending full payment.
However, Mohamed stated that the GCAA is currently trying to access documents from Air Services to see if indeed the aircraft was sold to Fenix Airways. Mohamed said if this is proven then charges would be imposed since Air Services would be in breach of their Air Operators’ Certificate.
“They would be in breach of their certificate because Fenix Airways is not licensed to operate aircraft
