There has been no announcement with regard to the appointment of Acting Police Commissioner Henry Greene, though President Bharrat Jagdeo was high in praise of his work.
Quizzed yesterday on the matter of Greene’s appointment, the President responded: “I am pleased with his work and that is all I am going to say.”
He then told reporters that they could draw their own conclusions.
Jagdeo also lauded the police and army for their collaboration in the fight against crime and said he is satisfied with the way they have been working.
“They have been aggressive and civil and while they have some difficulties they are doing a good job. Some may say I am talking too quickly but I think they have been functioning well,” the President said.
Over a year ago, Greene began functioning as the acting police chief following the retirement of Winston Felix.
It is felt that government’s prevarication over his appointment may have stemmed from the US Embassy’s revocation of both his diplomatic and visitor’s visas to that country over allegations that he profited materially from the proceeds of the narco-trade.
Greene has denied those allegations.
