Dear Editor,
Will the court rule on the Guyana Labour Union (GLU) case before December 31st ? What will happen if Mr Corbin’s tenure as President General runs out before the case is heard? These are pertinent questions arising out of an awareness of there being strange influences at work in the corridors of justice and politics in Guyana.
Whereas three GLU groups have filed a writ and we readily assume that Mr Corbin was influential in this, his authority in GLU ends December 31, 2007. Could he tell us why he is not using the authority and power vested in his office as President General to influence members of GLU to use the GLU rule book to adjudicate the matter of Mr Duncan’s behavior and to discipline him ? The rules of the union can be used to call a special delegates conference. Could Mr Corbin explain the failure to do so and could he say what he proposes to do if the court case is not called before December 31, 2007?
It appears that we are in a waiting game and time will run out! Some feel this is the intention and that it is the same way Mr Corbin took a long time to see that Mr Duncan was betraying the movement and the legacy of those labour leaders before him.
Meanwhile what is the PNC doing about this situation? Haven’t the labour advisors re-strategised how to best manage this mess while Mr Corbin still has the legal authority until Dec. 31, 2007. Will these persons not try to preserve the legacy that is being shunted away from us right before our very eyes?
Or is this situation being taken for granted not only by Mr Corbin but those in the PNC executive?
