Berbice spoilers Monedder-lust will be looking to continue their fairy tale run when they oppose the Guyana Defence Force in the second set of quarter-final matches in the NAMILCO knockout Football festival this evening at the Tucville Playfield.
The match will be the feature game of a double-header event and the Berbice side will be looking to continue their impressive form following their convincing 4-1 win over the pre-tournament fav-ourites Pele in their opening fixture.
Adrian Adams scored a hat-trick of goals for the Mondderlust side after Pele had taken the lead in the 13th minute through Maurice Carter.
Adams converted two penalty kicks after he and another team-mate were fouled in the penalty area in the 36th and 46th minutes of play.
Adams was back on the score card in the 61st minute, this time with a well-placed shot before Kelvin Joseph put the issue beyond doubt scoring in the 75th minute.
The first match is also expected to be a scorcher when Western Tigers take on West Demerara side Pouderoyen in the first game starting at 5.30pm.
Western Tigers ensured that the Berbice team did not dominate on Saturday night when they knocked out Rosignol United 3-1.
Ederson Gomes netted the game’s first goal in the 12th minute, Gavin Wilson sent his team further into the lead in the 31st and Devon Millington scored goal number three for the Tigers.
Rosignol’s consolation goal came off the boot of Delwin Fraser in the 90th minute of play.
The Guyana Defence Force had edged out Santos while Pouderoyen disposed of Flamingo.
Two quarter-final matches that were rained out Sunday evening were billed for last evening with GT&T premier league champions Alpha United opposing Camptown and BV/Truimph United meeting Silver Shatters.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday evening, while the final is set for Sunday at the Tucville ground.
Tournament sponsors NAMILCO will once again present gate prizes of hampers to lucky spectators.
The winners in the Festival will collect $400,000, with the runners-up taking home $200,000, third place $100,000 and fourth place $50,000.
There will be other incentive prizes including awards for the most valuable player (MVP), highest goal scorer, best goal keeper and young promising players (2).
