Come tomorrow afternoon persons with disabilities will entertain members of the public with their artistic talents at the St Stanislaus College during a concert titled ‘Don’t Diss Our Ability.’
The concert is part of the week of activities to mark UN International Day of Disabled Persons 2007 organised by the National Federation of and for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the National Commission on Disability (NCD) and with the support of VSO Guyana. The concert kicks off at 14:30 hrs and admission is free. A press release invited members of the public to what it described as a “unique and special event showcasing the many skills that persons with disabilities have.” There will be singing, music, poetry, dancing and an exhibition.
The concert is the final event of the week of activities and it was preceded by a march and opening ceremony attended by Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and Minister of Human Services Priya Manickchand. There have been ‘rap sessions’ with various ministries, public seminars, the launching of a booklet about autism and today there will be an employer’s recognition day for establishments that employ persons with disabilities in keeping with the theme ‘Decent Work for Persons with Disabilities’.
