The Ministry of Education is reminding all heads of schools that the hosting of seasonal fetes must adhere to its policies as regards the sale and or consumption of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes on the schools’ premises and must be orderly.
An advisory sought to remind all headteachers, teachers, parents and guardians that all school functions must be in keeping with the ministry’s rules and regulations; and must be a reflection of order, decency and decorum. The ministry said while some schools have chosen to have students wear uniforms to their parties, in cases where casual clothing is permitted, “a high degree of decency must be observed.”
Also, the choice of music and volume must be controlled by the school administration. In addition, the commencement and closing time for all events must be made known to all staff members, students and their parents/guardians and children must not be found loitering or wandering within or without the schools’ premises.
It said too that “the supervision of staff and learners during this last week of school must be discharged with greater vigilance.”
The ministry said these guidelines must be adhered to prevent “unpleasant incidents” from occurring. It also reminded headteachers that, ultimately, it is their responsibility to ensure the safety of their schools.
