Dear Editor,
I was alarmed to read the Kaieteur News report captioned “Two M-70 gang members secure bail”. In an era of missing AKs, intensified armed robbery the young 18-year-old who was caught with one joint of marijuana deserves the court’s gesture of kindness not these alleged armed robbers who were caught red handed with a M-70 rifle that they should not have had.
Releasing someone found with an M-70 automatic rifle on bail does not add up. These accused robbers do not want to flee Guyana, they want to continue their trade of maiming, murdering and stealing. As the prosecutor rightly stated, these accused could tamper with the witnesses by threatening them so that they do not testify. It is easy to do this in Guyana.
I hope that the Office of the Chancellor reviews this decision.
Yours faithfully,
Sasenarine Singh
