A man who admitted that he had cocaine and ganja because he was “frustrated with life” was fined with an alternative jail sentence for possession of the narcotics when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Nazir Mohamed of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara admitted to two charges of possession of narcotics and was handed the sentences by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
According to the facts on the case, last Friday at Stewartville, Mohamed had three grammes of cannabis and a gramme of cocaine on him when he was searched by police.
He was fined $10,000 with an alternative of six weeks imprisonment on the possession of cannabis charge and further fined $50,000 with an alternative of six months imprisonment for possession of the cocaine.
He told the court the he had the drug because he was “frustrated with life.”
