Dear Editor,
The executive members of the GTUC are soon to meet and decide whether to appoint a new general secretary or approve Lincoln Lewis’s request for a 4 year leave of absence.
There would be nothing more preposterous than to approve such a request. The right thing to do is to appoint Dale Ford as GTUC general secretary for he is not only the most trained person in GTUC but the most qualified person in the Caribbean to deal with collective labour agreements.
Lincoln Lewis was elected general secretary of the Caribbean Congress of Labour on the November 8, 2007. He should focus on mustering all his energies to perform his duties with excellence in his new elected position.
Lincoln Lewis has fought the good fight and now that he is leaving for a higher calling, the next step is to pass on the torch. He should encourage the executive members of the GTUC to appoint Dale Ford as general secretary of the movement.
The executive members of the GTUC should bear in mind that they have a moral responsibility to protect the interest of the workers and provide the movement with a successor.
They should not allow themselves to be intimidated or manipulated to place someone who is already over tasked to act in the position.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Garson
