The top performers in the just concluded Namilco knockout football Festival will be honoured at a presentation ceremony at National Milling Company (Namilco), head office at Agricola, today.
The Guyana Defence Force(GDF) will receive the top prize of $400,000 and the Namilco trophy.
Alpha United will be awarded $200,000 for their second place finish, while BV/Triumph United of East Coast Demerara will take home $100,000 for finishing third and Pouderoyen of West Demerara $50,000 for their fourth place.
The Prize for the Most Valuable Player, donated by 2Js General Store, goes to GDF striker Stellon David.
The highest goal scorer’s prize sponsored by Junior’s Jewellery will be shared by Delroy Deen of BV and Clement Brown of Pouderoyen, who both recorded five goals apiece in the competition. GDF’s custodian Keith Fraser won the prize for the best goalkeeper and will receive a cellular phone from Swansea telecommunications.
Seventeen-year-old Kenson Dindley of Berbice side Monedderlust and 19-year-old Akel Clarke of Fruta Conquerors have both received computer scholarships from Global Technology. Monedderlust was voted the most disciplined team. The presentation will start at 14:00 h.
The Guyana Defence Force defeated Alpha United in a penalty shootout to win the 16-team tournament organised by Fruta Conquerors football club.
