Guyana’s Nicholas Narine turned in a creditable performance last week-end in Barbados where he competed in the Rotherly Junior Squash Open tournament.
According to a press release, the 18-year-old Narine, was playing in his first overseas tournament during which he defeated four players – Haiden Ward, Ryan Foster, Daniel Jordan and Ciaran Edwards – in straight sets before falling to Barbadian Jonathan O’Dowd in the final.
Narine later said he was happy to overcome his ” initial anxiety about playing away from home and without his coach and fellow Guyanese players,” the release stated.
He also thanked his sponsor Margarita Gift Shop for assisting him to participate in the three-day tournament.
Coach Ince said he was quite pleased with Naraine’s recent progress and good form as reflected in his overseas exploits and urged him to remain dedicated to the sport.
