Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn, in tribute to the late General Manager of the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) William Joseph, said he would be remembered for his commitment to highlighting opportunities for safety and training.
“We have been genuinely pleased with the response of T&HD in embarking on the ministry’s vision of continuously improving the department and the standard of service it provides and the levels it had achieved in the past,” Benn said, as he reflected on Joseph’s role transforming the Department.
According to a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) particular mention was made of Joseph’s dedication to the rehabilitation of stellings and buildings, the need to institute loss-prevention exercises and efforts to save operating assets on the Essequibo by adopting passage on the high tide. The improvements for passengers’ comfort and the resumption of services to Port Kaituma, North West District, after 20 years, were among some of his achievements.
“I wish to state how gratifying it has been to see positive changes, in response, from the T&HD and how much we hope that the example given us by Mr Joseph can be replicated, soon, in some other areas of the ministry,” Benn said.
