Dear Editor,
I have noted with disgust the unending campaign by Stabroek News to vilify me in public. In doing so, it has utilized elements of disinformation, lies, half-truths, innuendoes and deception. In the process, I have been slandered and libeled. Now I have noticed an attempt to ensnare the unsuspecting public into its ugly scheme. The paper has peddled so many lies over a period of time that it is beginning to believe them to be real and offering same to the public as the gospel truth.
I do intend to make a public statement on the matter at the appropriate time. At this moment I can say that the information being provided to the public is being deliberately distorted. Those distortions will be dealt with later. So far what is clear is that all parties concerned have indicated to the police that they do not want the matter to go any further. Also, the competent authorities are currently determining whether I used my firearm in an appropriate manner. On that matter I say no more.
In the meantime, Stabroek News is pursuing its own agenda. I have refrained from rebuffing the Stabroek News story since I do not believe that the paper is interested in the truth. I do not intend to fall into the trap of being part of that scheme.
Yours faithfully,
Kellawan Lall
Editor’s note
When this matter first broke and our reporter spoke to Mr Lall he said he would give us a statement when he was named.
After he was named he refused to give a statement and has since refused to do so. When is an appropriate time? In an open democratic society a minister should surely respond immediately when a matter of this kind first surfaces.
