President Bharrat Jagdeo says Eid-ul-Adha reminds citizens of their humanity and it should inspire them to work together for the good of the country.
Jagdeo said Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated throughout the Muslim world with acts of kindness and charity in honour of the Prophets Abraham’s and Ishmael’s willingness to make a sacrifice of faith. Further, a press release from the Office of the President said, Eid is a great reminder to mankind of the importance of principles such as faith, repentance, honesty, simplicity, equality and concern for the dispossessed and the poor. The president encourages the nation to let the values of love, sacrifice and compassion influence our daily interactions despite ethnic and religious origins.
Meanwhile Jagdeo congratulated the Guyanese chosen to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage at Mecca. He also extended best wishes for their safe return home at the end of the function. The president said as Muslims offer sacrifices today he hopes citizens offer special prayers for peace so that Guyana can move forward in prosperity.
