Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel is fully prepared for the festive season with its offerings including a special Christmas buffet lunch and an ‘Umbrella Party’ for New Year’s Eve.
Speaking with the media at one such Christmas lunch on Wednesday, General Manager Bert Plas also outlined plans for the hotel in the New Year which include a complete renovation of its 130 rooms to reflect more modern conveniences.
The hotel’s renovated facilities would be re-launched during the first quarter of next year in keeping with similar activities at other Le Meridien properties worldwide, Plas said adding that it was also part of maintaining its image as the leading hotel in the country.
The hotel’s seasonal activities already underway include a daily Christmas buffet, which is a fusion of international and local cuisine: roast turkey with cranberry sauce, terrines, glazed hams and salads, black cake and Yule logs.
The activities will culminate on New Year’s Eve with an all-night long ‘Party Under One Umbrella’ taking a cue from Bajan singing sensation Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella”.
Le Meridien Pegasus Marketing Manager Tricia Yearwood explained that for one price, Old Year’s Night revellers would have access to Le Poolside, The Umbrella Lobby Bars and the Grand Savannah Suite ‘Umbrella’ Disco where DJ Smallie will “preside.”
At Le Poolside, there would also be live entertainment with the Brutal Jammers as well as music provided by a stereo set. There would also be an extensive buffet. Tented accommodation would be provided at the poolside in the event of rain. Tickets cover entry, a lavish dinner and entertainment and patrons would have to purchase their beverages.
Some seeking a fixed menu at an extra cost would be able to do so at the El Dorado Restaurant. They would not have access to the buffet but to all the other facilities. The menu includes smoked salmon and crabmeat salad in butter pastry with a basil pine nut dressing as the appetizer, red pumpkin bisque with celery and cognac; sherry marinated beef on grilled sweet potato with broccoli and a chili garlic cream sauce or chicken breast with prawn mousse or a ginger risotto with star anise sabayon.
Apart from the decorations and trimmings throughout the hotel and the giant Christmas tree that graces the lobby, of interest is a ‘Ginger Bread Christmas House’ made of cookies and candy. Inside the miniature house are the usual furnishings, a Santa Claus and other residents and on the table is a miniature bottle of one of Guyana’s finest – El Dorado rum. (Miranda La Rose)
