Dear Editor,
I purchased a Nokia-112 handset from Digicel (Guyana Stores branch) on the December 11. I did not call anyone until about 5 pm when I called my friend. I could hear him but he could not hear me, so I called my sister and it was the same.
The next day I tried calling, the same thing happened. All the time my minutes were going. I took it back to my place of purchase, the guys checked it out only to tell me that the microphone is not working. I was so disappointed.
They told me it has to be repaired and I filled out a form (which is attached). Fuming with rage I gave it to them and was told to come back in one week. I then went to the company’s Fort Street building. I was told by a young lady that there was only one supervisor in the building and that it was impossible for me to see him as he was too busy.
I waited three days then I went back to the Fort St site. While there I complained to a young lady about a cracked handset that I received. Also a lady who was there complained about a similar matter like mine. Then a young man and his associate were there to find out why after repeated trips (he lived in the country) he could not receive his $2,007 top-up when he had purchased his phone at Guy-Expo. As I was debating with my fellow sufferers, the “lady” left her chair, informed her supervisor of what was transpiring and came back in a few seconds.
A man came out and spoke to me (his name was Lyndon Gomes) and gave me his number and told me it’s a manufacturer’s fault but that my phone can be uplifted. I felt a little better. When I went back to GSL the fellows said that my phone was working and they showed me that it was. I went home and called and even sent three texts so everything was going fine.
A couple of days after I topped up $500 and called my friend trying to take advantage of the 3 mins for free. I was looking at my watch believe me sir, 2 mins “Beep” I was cut off. I consulted my credit there was none. A voice said “you have no credit”!
Now, Mr Editor, I am stuck with a brand new second hand phone that oh I forgot to tell you works on and off while gobbling up my hard earned money. I feel cheated.
Yours faithfully,
Edwin Wilson
