Three persons accused of killing a man by setting him afire last year were yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court.
Magistrate Fazil Azeez, before whom the Preliminary Inquiry was conducted at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, found that a prima facie case had been made against the accused and committed them to stand trial for the offence.
Colin McIntosh, Mohan Persaud, Kamie Persaud and Mulchand Persaud called ‘Bully’ were jointly charged for the murder of Ajodya Singh. It is alleged that on June 20 last year at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, the quartet murdered Singh.
Mulchand Persaud however was never arrested.
Reports are on the said day the accused threw a flammable liquid on Singh and then lit him afire. He later died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
When Magistrate Azeez handed down his ruling yesterday that a prima facie case had been made out against the accused and called upon them to lead their defence, they all proclaimed their innocence from the dock. They said that they knew nothing of the offence committed and declined to call witnesses on their behalf at that stage.
The accused are being represented by attorneys-at-law Gloria Stephney and Lawrence Harris.
