CLICO Guyana, a member of the CL Financial Group of Trinidad and Tobago has begun the construction of a new building on Camp Street which it purchased several years ago from Guysuco and says the new edifice will transform the area.
In a statement to Stabroek News following an enquiry, CLICO said the building will comprise a series of offices which will be rented to its corporate clients at lots 200/201, Camp Street.
The property was purchased by CLICO from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) in 2005. It had originally been intended to house the GuySuCo headquarters but these plans fell apart and the frame of the building was left standing for years.
“The new building will be a significant boost to the Camp Street business sector,” stated Sharon Melville, Vice President of Accounts in the release, who added that, “not only will it be an economic boost, but aesthetically it will transform the Camp Street area.”
“The aesthetics of the building will reflect a bold modern design, while maintaining the richness of Georgetown’s colonial architecture,” added Chief Executive Officer Geeta Singh-Knight.
“It is a significant investment which was based on creating increased wealth for our policyholders and our continued commitment towards the nation’s economic growth,” said Singh-Knight.
The value of the project was not stated in the press statement.
