A woman who is believed to be mentally unstable was arrested on Friday following the death of her brother-in-law from suspected stab wounds.
According to the police it is suspected that Frederick Whyte, 65, of Cottage, West Coast Berbice, died last Sunday as a result of stab wounds he received eight days earlier.
A press release said that Whyte, who was bed-ridden, was allegedly stabbed with a knife in his chest and abdomen by the suspect who is believed to be mentally unstable. He received medical attention and was sent home where he later died.
Police said that the matter was not reported but acting on information received ranks on Friday went to the mortuary at the Fort Wellington Hospital where they seized Whyte’s body and arrested the suspect.
A knife thought to have been used by the suspect has also been recovered by the police.
Tomorrow a post mortem examination will be conducted on Whyte’s body.
