Dear Editor,
If the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) cannot provide internal security at their home base, how can they defend the territorial integrity of this country of ours?
Another AK-47 has bitten the dust, so who is to be blamed for negligence? I served in the army for almost 11 years and such shameful and embarrassing things never happened. Where are we going? Our own cannot defend us.
There are standing orders concerning procedures for checking each and every arms-store, for mounting guards, for kitchen staff-parade, etc, to ensure everything is correct.
As for the arms-stores, each book is signed by the respective officers and there are procedures in relation to the keys, among other things. My question is, who is to be blamed? I cry shame to the school where I received my discipline and training.
Come on, wake up soldiers and bring back the old days of respect and honour.
Yours faithfully,
P.A. Roberts
