Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on Wednesday remanded two persons including a teenager, when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to separate charges of armed robbery.
The 16-year-old boy is accused of using a cutlass to rob a man of his gold chain and pendant. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence and was later remanded into police custody.
It is alleged that on December 20, being armed with a dangerous weapon, the lad robbed Ravin Ramnarine of the said items, altogether valued $225,000.
No relative or attorney was present in court for the teen. The matter will continue on January 21.
In the second case, Collin Junior Lees is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint, of his gold chain. He too was not required to plead to the charge.
It is alleged that on December 22, being armed with a hand gun, he robbed Cleveland Forde of the chain valued at $175, 000.
When Lees appeared in court his right hand was bandaged just below the elbow and the hand was in a sling.
He did not have an attorney but in his defence he said, “I ask you for a bail ma worship. Me ain’t get no Christmas. They beat me up because I talking fuh me rights and ain’t carry me to seek any medical attention. They get me lock up since Christmas Eve.”
Despite his plea, the magistrate refused bail and set the matter for January 21 for report.
