The Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) said its First Vice President, James Gregory Jodhan, died recently after a brief illness.
In a press release the GTU said Jodhan served as a true son with 37 years of experience as a trade unionist.
Jodhan was also deputy headmaster of the Swami Purnanandan Secondary School. In April 2006 he was elected to the First Vice President post, with responsibility for the finance, building management and conference planning committees. He was also coordinator for GTU cricket tournaments and was captain of the Upper East Coast Demerara (ECD) Dominoes team.
The GTU said the programme for Jodhan’s funeral is as follows, on Sunday the body will be at its offices for viewing, tributes and a short service at 10 am. The body will leave the GTU at 12 pm for Jodhan’s Cove and John (C&J) ECD residence for further viewing and tributes. It is expected to leave this location for the St Andrews Anglican Church, C&J, for funeral service and burial.
