A pregnant 18-year-old who is accused of stealing a quantity of items including cellular phones and accessories from her ex-boyfriend yesterday appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle and was released on $50,000 bail.
Helena Perreira of Lot 112 North Sophia pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny when it was read to her in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
It is alleged that on December 18, Perreira stole four Motorola cell phones, one complete tool kit, two Blue Tooth earpieces, cash, a Guyana passport, one jersey and a bag all valued at $179,000, belonging to Cordel Browne.
Reports are that on the day in question, the two met in the Stabroek Market area where Perreira told Browne that she and the man she was pregnant for were having problems. She then invited him to stay with her in Sophia.
While Browne was asleep, Perreira allegedly stole the bag containing the articles mentioned in the charge.
A report was made and Perreira was arrested.
Perreira, who was unrepresented, told the court that her little cousin had wanted them to steal the bag but she said no and left.
The matter will continue on January 18 in Court Three.
