Hardly a day goes by without having to read distressing news about armed robbery, killing, drug trafficking, disappearance of weapons in government’s custody, lawlessness on the streets. Armed bandits seem to succeed in attacking any chosen target at any time including places of worship which seem to be under attack in recent days (killing of a preacher and robberies).
Attack on churches is a reflection of the failure of law and order and disrespect for God and authority of any kind. The police and political leadership seem to be clueless about what to do to stem the crime wave. Clearly whatever they are doing is not working effectively. They must, therefore, consider changing tack in order to stop this wanton violence.
I would like to recommend that the government seek the assistance of the U.S, Canada, and England to stop the law breakers. The political directorate should also consider setting up an intelligence unit (as other countries have) to gather information on would be criminal activities and movement of known criminals to stop them in their tracks. No government functions without an intelligence unit (not to keep tab on political enemies but on criminals). Intelligence gathering must be alert and alive on impending criminal activities.
Government must send a clear message to the criminals. What is needed is action-oriented plans to go after the criminals and their supporters (who provide shelter to them), not empty rhetoric from officials after every major criminal act.
