Guyana will be well represented at Ventures Hockey Club 6th annual six-a-side Indoor Festival which will bully off on Thursday in Trinidad.
The 2007 Diamond Mineral Water Indoor women’s champions George-town Cricket Club, Old Fort and Everest Hikers are all expected to be represented at the Festival.
Philip Fernandes coach of the GCC ladies team disclosed that his side will depart Guyana on Wednesday morning.
Fernandes said GCC ladies will be making their first tour in many years and it is a great opportunity and an incentive for the players who were successful at the DWM Festival.
The 12-member team will be captained by Sonia Jardine and will include Tiffany Solomon who was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the recently staged Diamond Mineral Water Festival.
The other members are Alysa Xavier, Natalie Hing (goalkeepers), Trisha Woodroffe, Tricia Fiedtkou, Marzena Fiedtkou, Vanessa Pires, Thi Fernandes, Gabriella Xavier, Brenette Gordon and Kerensa Fernandes.
The manager is Chris Fernandes.
Several members of GCC men’s team including Alan Fernandes, Marcus Fiedtkou, and Devin Hooper will also be traveling and are likely to compete for Brooklyn All Stars (a team comprising of US-based Guyanese).
Devin Munroe Captain of DMW Men’s champion team Everest Hikers disclosed that several men’s and women’s players from Everest will also be attending the Festival with Jerezeno Bell (DWM Male MVP), Munroe among the players listed to travel.
Old Fort will also be represented and their line up will include Askofu and Aderemi Simon, John Abraham, Chris Lowe, Tony Cole, Wayne St. Jules and Robert Hussain.
The tournament which is expected to attract several overseas teams as well as the top teams in the Twin island republic will get cracking on Thursday at Woodbrook Youth Facility.
Over $20,000 (TT) in prizes will be at stake for the top three teams in three divisions Men’s Open, Ladies Open and Over-40 men.
The tournament ends on Sunday with the finals of all three divisions.
