A man who was accused of chopping his uncle to death was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Springlands Court before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud.
Twenty-three-year-old Mahendra “Sunil” Singh of Number
72 Village is accused of murdering Ganesh Roy on January 5.
It is alleged that the men who lived in the same yard were drinking at a neighbour’s house around 9:40 pm on January 2 when the neighbour accused Singh of flirting with his wife and Singh left.
According to reports the neighbour complained to Roy who followed Singh and slapped him during a confrontation. Singh retaliated by retrieving a cutlass from his house and chopped Roy on his head, left leg and abdomen.
Roy was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he subsequently died. Singh is scheduled to return to court on February 2.
