Caricom Secretary-General Edwin Carrington was conferred with the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA) Distinguished Global Leadership Award, at its 2007 summit held in Nassau.
According to a press release The Bahamas’ Ambassador to Caricom Leonard Archer received the award on Carrington’s behalf during the Summit held from November 5-8. The award is given to an individual who, in the opinion of the Association, has demonstrated international leadership in multiple disciplines and arenas; has rendered more than five years of distinguished service and who could be considered a mentor.
Archer handed over the award, symbolised by a plaque and crystal vase to the secretary-general at the Secretariat headquarters in December during his farewell visit to that office. In expressing his pleasure and appreciation in receiving the award Carrington said he was humbled by the recognition the ITWLA bestowed on him; even more so by the group’s foundations including a spiritual dimension. He said, “Whatever I have done, has always been in the interest of this Region and has been dedicated to the improvement of the lives of the people of Caricom and of the wider Caribbean.”
The ITWLA, which is based in The Bahamas, is a global network of Christian leaders from more than 40 nations. Its membership comprises leaders from among government officials, church leaders, athletes, business persons and educators. It is committed to providing relevant resources and skills refinement for global leaders.
