The Region Three administration on Sunday christened a new boat and engine to serve the riverrain area, in the Essequibo River.
According to a press release the 23-foot fibre glass boat, fitted with a 75 horse power Yamaha engine was obtained through the regional capital budget at a cost of $2.2M.
At the ceremonial launching Regional Chairman Julius Faerber said the riverrain communities would now be better served with the acquisition since the old boat had outlived its usefulness and had high maintenance costs. Faerber also said the capacity of the new boat exceeds the old one. He also said the old boat and engine will be refurbished and put into operation on the West Bank Demerara.
