Dear Editor,
I am 62 and live at Bess Village, West Bank Demerara.
During the year 1983-1989 inclusive I was employed by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) as a carpenter. My work number is C0075. During the time I worked with the GDF I was told that my NIS contribution was being paid and was current. However, when I checked with NIS some years later I discovered that for the period 1983-1989 no contribution by the GDF was paid.
I made several visits to the GDF office and the Office of the President to have this matter resolved but so far nothing has happened and the matter remains unresolved.
Mr Editor I would like you to highlight this story because this practice of not paying NIS contributions is widespread.
Yours faithfully,
Ganesh Gokaran
