A 42-year-old woman charged with cutting another in the face with a bottle during an altercation over the throwing of remarks was yesterday granted $75,000 bail.
Lana Edwards of 443 West Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm when she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that on January 6 at Cornhill Street, Edwards maliciously assaulted Pinkey Sampson so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Sampson was present in court yesterday and her face bore a cut on the left side, which had several stitches.
In requesting reasonable bail, attorney-at-law Michael Somersall told the court that Edwards was a first-time offender. After the magistrate had a close look at her wound, Sampson said that on the day in question, she was speaking to someone and Edwards thought that she was throwing remarks at her.
She said that the woman walked up to her and cuffed her in the face and in defence she chucked her.
Sampson told the court that Edwards subsequently picked up a bottle and she sustained a cut to her face.
The matter will continue on February 1.
