Dear Editor,
Many can identify with Martin Roberts’ letter captioned “What are the new TUC President’s plans to deal with the many problems confronting the workers?” (08.01.07). I take this opportunity to add a few more to the list of problems.
People are angry that Ministers are breaking the law and getting away with it. They are also angry about the police and army brutality and torture, the sluggish court system, corruption in government, 16 % percent VAT with a 9 percent imposed wages increase and double digit inflation, businesses who use VAT as an excuse to triple prices for basic items, the weak opposition, paying bills to the inept GPL and GWI, and government starving the City Council of vital funds to run effectively.
Roberts is right, the anger is rising. If it’s not attended to it will boil over. Ms. Gillian Burton has to offer reassurances by demonstrating that under her presidency the TUC will take a strong stand against what is happening.
Yours faithfully,
Roy Ramroop
