Local basketball coaches will benefit from a 10-day coaching clinic to be conducted by Fitzgerald “Naka” Joseph, Head Coach and Technical Director of the Grenada Basketball Association under the auspices of the `Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation and the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF).
Thirty coaches drawn from around the country have been invited to participate in the programme which will be conducted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
There will be a formal opening ceremony today at Olympic House in Queenstown starting at 09:00 h.
President of the GABF Col. (retired) Godwin McPherson said that President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K. A. Juman-Yassin and Director of Sport Neil Kumar have been invited to give brief remarks at the opening ceremony.
Sessions will be held daily at the Sports Hall at 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00 h.
Joseph will be assisted by local qualified coach Bobby Cadogan.
Joseph has been the Technical Director of the Grenada Basketball Association for the past 20 years and heads the “Naka” Joseph Basketball School in St. George’s.
He has attended several clinics in the United States including the University of Idaho, University of Illinois, Duke University and University of North Carolina.
The GABF is expected to select a training squad to work along with the coaches.
Joseph has also attended two certification programmes (NCCP in Canada).
This is the first major activity for the `Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation for 2008.
Joseph arrived in Guyana yesterday and will be here until January 21.
