Speaker of the National Assembly, Ralph Ramkarran, was elected a Member of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers at a recent seminar held in London.
According to a press release from the Assembly, the speaker was the main presenter on the topic ‘Parlia-ment’s Relations with the Public’ which generated much debate at both the workshop and plenary session.
It said too Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Secretary-General, Dr William Shija and Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, Baroness Hayman contributed to the discussion at the January 2-6 meeting.
The Assembly said the Committee will direct the Conference’s work until the 20th session which is scheduled to be hosted in India in 2010.
The session was held at the Royal Gallery of the Palace of Westminster.
