The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is seeking the assistance of employers in verifying the Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) of their employees.
According to a GRA press release issued yesterday, Commissioner General Khurshid Sattaur said that employers would receive lists of the TINs issued to their employees and “we would seek their assistance in verifying those numbers”. He also asked that employers make any necessary amendments such as including the TINs of those persons who might have applied individually.
He said the GRA has resorted to this exercise since it appeared that employers had not undertaken their responsibility seriously with regard to ensuring that their employees obtain their TINs early.
The Commissioner-General’s statement came as the GRA’s efforts intensify to ensure its system is effective and ready to accept February 14 remittances. He pointed out that the GRA would not accommodate any further extension to the TIN relaxation which it granted for the January remittance.
Sattaur said the Ministry of Finance should have taken the initiative to disseminate to the various ministries and departments a listing of the TINs of their employees, which the GRA facilitated electronically some time ago.
The GRA is now in the process of compiling these with support from the Ministry of Finance and they should reach employers before the end of the week, the release said.
