A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Guyana Prison Service was yesterday inked for the restart of agricultural activities at the prisons which would ensure self-sufficiency in food.
A press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said the Agriculture Ministry will be pursing a similar arrangement with the Guyana Defence Force which is to be completed in two weeks.
According to the release, while speaking at the signing ceremony which took place in the Minister of Home Affairs boardroom, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee said that the MOU will provide momentum to the general plans of government to revitalize farming at the prisons.
“We found that the prison service has tremendous potential to make a significant contribution to the agricultural sector even if it is mainly to ensure it becomes self sufficient in food and other agriculture products
