Farfan and Mendes Limited (F&ML) has continued its commitment to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s (RHTY&SC) Under-15 cricket team, which is now in its 11th year, to the tune of $140,000.00.
Yesterday at a simple ceremony held at the Urquhart Street office of F&ML, chairwoman of the company, June Mendes handed over the cheque for this year’s sponsorship to secretary of the club Hilbert Foster.
Mendes, who also accepted the post of patron of the club replacing Peter Ramsaroop, said it was a pleasure for Farfan and Mendes to be associated with RHTY&SC.
“Farfan and Mendes group’s association with RHTY&SC has been a very successful one over the years. We have been more than encouraged with the management and the success they have had with the youths in the area and the county of Berbice. We have seen wonderful rewards from within the club and are very delighted to be a part of such a wonderful organization” Mendes stated. Foster, prior to receiving the cheque said it was a great pleasure for RHTY&SC to have been associated with F&M since 1997.
“Ever since 1997 when we approached F&ML seeking sponsorship for our under-15 cricketers, they had readily said yes and to a day like today, we have been enjoying a wonderful relationship with them. The under-15 team has won numerous competitions over the years, including the George Trim and Eric Lewis Memorial trophies and has also played a part in the development of three senior national and 22 county players for Berbice” Foster stated in a statement.
F&ML also supports the Club’s monthly television programme, Awards ceremony, cricket academy, annual magazine and Xmas charity programme. This year’s sponsorship would go towards the purchasing of cricket balls, transportation, gear and providing snacks for the under-15 team. Meanwhile, the club made a presentation to the Berbice Cricket Board of Control on Friday to the tune of $400,000.00 for its cricket development programme.
The presentation consisted of 80 hygiene kits valued at $160,000.00 and is to be used by all four teams (Under-15,17, 19 and Senior) representing Berbice at the Inter County level this year. The Board also received 20 school kits to a value of $120,000.00 along with one ice bucket, water pitcher and microwave oven. The education kits will be used by the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) under its education programme to assist cricketers attending school. This programme will be launched on Thursday with a simple ceremony at the Board’s Office.
Foster also stated that the club is committed to the development of cricket in Guyana and will continue to work with the BCB in 2008 towards this venture.
The RHTY&SC also wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the following for their sterling contribution which made the presentation to the BCB a successful one.
