Dear Editor,
I made a dating error in my letter captioned “While some inflated the votes cast some inflated the votes registered” (08.01.19). According to Mr Rampersaud Tiwari who was an official at the Claims and Objections hearing, my claims were in respect of certain names in the Preliminary Voters List (PVL) that was advertised for the Enterprise voter registration area of the East Demerara electoral district in the voter registration process for the 1961 general elections. and not that of 1964 as I stated. Mr Tiwari was at the time Clerk to the Registration Officer, Mr AJ De Souza, who was a Magistrate in the East Demerara Judicial District. The Head Office of the district was at Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.
Rampersaud Tiwari had been a Magistrate’s Clerk at Vigilance when the 1961 voter registration process started; and although he was later seconded as an Administrative Cadet to GIS in May 1961, he was not relieved of his duties as Clerk to the Registration Officer. He was therefore, present at the Vigilance Magistrates Court Room for the Claims and Objections hearings.
Mr Tiwari read my letter and he called and discussed the matter with me. He remembers the claims I referred to and the results as described in my letter. He has agreed for me to use his name in making the correction.
Yours faithfully,
Eusi Kwayana
