Lima Sands students are set to benefit from two $9M schools recently built in Region Two.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, the primary schools, which cost $9M each, can each accommodate 200 students. Regional Chairman Ali Baksh said that due to the deterioration of the old buildings, and the improved attendance of children, new buildings were urgently needed.
According to GINA, Akawini, Bethany, Capoey Lake, Kabakaburi, Mashabo, Karawab (St Monica), Tapakuma (St Denis), Wakapoa and Mainstay/Whayaka each have a nursery and primary school.
A secondary school and dormitory that accommodates children from other areas has also been established at Wakapoa.
Regional Executive Officer Iqbaul Khan said that the small communities have a population of about 1,000 residents each, except for Wakapoa which has about 2,000 residents.
GINA said children at both schools will benefit from the government’s feeding programme. The communities are managed by a hinterland affairs committee that ensures that every community is developed.
