Man who allegedly forged dead woman’s signature refused bail

A 49-year-old father of four was yesterday refused bail by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of forgery.

David Coleridge of 96 Garden Street, Lamaha Gardens pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the magistrate and thereafter his attorney insisted that Coleridge was not at fault.

According to him, on Monday his client went to transact business at an office, followed the instructions of a clerk there and was subsequently charged.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Coleridge produced an authorisation purportedly signed by Doreen Vieira, who is deceased, with intent to defraud.

The accused was refused bail and the matter will continue today in Court One.
